Job Title: Feed Mill Manager

Job Summary:

The Feed Mill Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a feed mill facility, ensuring the production of high-quality animal feed while maintaining efficiency, safety, and compliance with regulations. This role involves managing staff, optimizing production processes, ensuring equipment maintenance, and coordinating with suppliers and customers.

Key Responsibilities:

Operations Management:

  • Oversee all feed production processes, including receiving raw materials, grinding, mixing, and pelleting.
  • Ensure consistent production of high-quality feed that meets nutritional and safety standards.
  • Monitor inventory levels and coordinate the purchase of raw materials.
  • Implement cost-effective production strategies while maintaining quality and efficiency.

Personnel Management:

  • Supervise, train, and schedule feed mill employees to ensure smooth operation.
  • Enforce safety protocols and ensure compliance with workplace regulations.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching for staff development.

Quality & Compliance:

  • Maintain compliance with industry regulations, including FDA, OSHA, and EPA guidelines.
  • Ensure adherence to feed safety and quality control standards (such as HACCP, GMP).
  • Monitor and document quality control measures, including ingredient testing and finished product checks.

Equipment & Maintenance:

  • Oversee the maintenance and repair of mill equipment to minimize downtime.
  • Coordinate with maintenance teams to ensure proper functionality of machinery.
  • Implement preventive maintenance schedules.

Financial & Administrative Duties:

  • Manage the feed mill budget, controlling costs and maximizing profitability.
  • Prepare reports on production, quality, and efficiency metrics.
  • Coordinate with the supply chain team to optimize inventory and logistics.

Customer & Supplier Relations:

  • Work closely with nutritionists, livestock producers, and other stakeholders to meet feed formulation needs.
  • Maintain relationships with ingredient suppliers to ensure a steady and cost-effective supply chain.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, Agriculture, Feed Science, or related field (preferred).
  • Proven experience in feed mill operations, production management, or agribusiness.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of feed manufacturing equipment and maintenance procedures.
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements in the feed industry.
  • Ability to analyze data, manage budgets, and optimize operations.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

Work Environment:

  • The role requires working in an industrial setting with exposure to dust, noise, and machinery.
  • May involve physical activity, including lifting and climbing.
  • Requires adherence to strict safety and hygiene protocols.
