Job Title: Grain Superintendent

Job Summary:

The Grain Superintendent oversees the daily operations of grain storage, handling, and shipping facilities. This role ensures efficient grain receiving, storage, conditioning, and distribution while maintaining safety, compliance, and operational efficiency. The superintendent is responsible for managing staff, maintaining equipment, and ensuring quality control to meet customer and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Operations Management:

  • Oversee the receiving, drying, storing, and shipping of grain to ensure efficiency and quality.
  • Monitor grain inventory levels and manage proper storage techniques to prevent spoilage.
  • Ensure proper operation of grain handling equipment such as conveyors, elevators, dryers, and aeration systems.
  • Optimize facility operations to maximize productivity and minimize downtime.

Personnel Management:

  • Supervise and train facility employees, ensuring adherence to operational and safety procedures.
  • Schedule and assign tasks to maintain efficient workflow.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching for continuous improvement.

Quality & Compliance:

  • Maintain compliance with all regulatory requirements, including OSHA, FDA, EPA, and state grain handling regulations.
  • Monitor grain quality through regular testing and inspections.
  • Implement and enforce safety protocols to prevent accidents and ensure a secure work environment.

Equipment & Facility Maintenance:

  • Oversee the maintenance and repair of grain handling equipment and storage facilities.
  • Implement a preventative maintenance program to reduce unexpected failures.
  • Coordinate with maintenance teams and external contractors as needed.

Financial & Administrative Duties:

  • Assist in budgeting and cost control measures to improve operational profitability.
  • Prepare reports on grain inventory, quality, and facility performance.
  • Work with grain procurement teams to optimize supply chain efficiency.

Customer & Supplier Relations:

  • Communicate with grain suppliers, farmers, and customers to ensure timely shipments and deliveries.
  • Address customer concerns regarding grain quality, handling, or transportation.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key industry stakeholders.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Grain Science, Agribusiness, or related field (preferred).
  • Proven experience in grain handling, facility management, or agricultural operations.
  • Strong leadership and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of grain storage, conditioning, and transportation best practices.
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements related to grain handling and safety.
  • Ability to operate and troubleshoot grain handling equipment.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Work Environment:

  • Requires working in an industrial and outdoor setting with exposure to dust, noise, and variable weather conditions.
  • May involve physical labor, including lifting, climbing, and working at heights.
  • Requires adherence to strict safety protocols.
