Grain Laborer

Job Summary:

The Grain Laborer plays an essential role in supporting the efficient handling and processing of grains. This position involves working in a grain elevator, mill, or warehouse setting, assisting with the loading, unloading, sorting, and storage of various grain types. Grain Laborers are responsible for maintaining cleanliness, ensuring safety protocols, and operating basic machinery and equipment used in grain processing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Grain Handling: Assist with loading, unloading, and transferring grains from trucks, railcars, and storage bins.
  • Sorting & Cleaning: Inspect and sort grains for quality, removing damaged or foreign materials.
  • Storage & Maintenance: Ensure proper storage of grains, monitor storage conditions, and help maintain inventory levels.
  • Equipment Operation: Operate machinery such as conveyors, augers, and forklifts to move grain and assist with milling and processing tasks.
  • Safety & Compliance: Follow safety protocols, wear necessary protective equipment, and adhere to all health and safety regulations to prevent accidents.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of grain inventory, work performed, and any issues related to grain quality or machinery.
  • Facility Maintenance: Help with general maintenance and upkeep of the facility, ensuring cleanliness and organization.
  • Assist Other Departments: Collaborate with other workers in related departments (e.g., quality control, shipping) to ensure smooth operations.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a grain or agricultural environment is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to operate basic machinery and equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
  • Basic math skills for inventory and measurement purposes.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy loads (up to 50 lbs) and work in various weather conditions if required.
  • Knowledge of safety practices in an industrial setting.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Comfortable working in dusty and noisy environments.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions (for outdoor roles).
  • Capable of bending, lifting, and performing physical labor as required.

Additional Skills (optional):

  • Forklift certification or willingness to obtain certification.
  • Knowledge of grain quality standards.
  • Ability to perform routine maintenance on machinery.
