Custom Applicator

Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and reliable Custom Applicator to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for applying fertilizers, pesticides, and other chemicals to crops, ensuring that all applications are done efficiently and in compliance with safety and regulatory standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of agronomy, excellent driving skills, and a commitment to providing exceptional service to local farmers and agricultural businesses.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Application of Fertilizers and Chemicals:

    • Operate and maintain custom application equipment such as sprayers and spreaders to apply fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides to crops.
    • Ensure proper application rates, timing, and placement based on crop needs and weather conditions.
    • Accurately calibrate equipment to ensure precision and effectiveness of product application.
    • Apply treatments to a variety of crops, including row crops, wheat, and other agricultural fields.
    • Safely operate application equipment, ensuring all equipment is in good working condition and ready for use.
    • Perform routine maintenance on equipment, including cleaning, inspections, and troubleshooting.
    • Ensure the proper storage and handling of chemicals and fertilizers to meet safety standards and avoid contamination.
    • Keep records of all chemical applications, including product type, rates, and locations.
    • Follow all safety protocols, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) during application processes.
    • Adhere to all federal, state, and local regulations regarding chemical use and pesticide application.
    • Participate in safety training sessions and ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations.
    • Maintain accurate records of chemical applications for reporting purposes.
    • Communicate with farmers and landowners to understand their specific application needs.
    • Provide guidance and recommendations on the best products and application methods for different crops.
    • Ensure high-quality customer service and maintain strong relationships with clients.
    • Address any customer concerns or issues with the application process in a timely and professional manner.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; relevant agricultural or technical certifications preferred.
  • Experience in custom application, farming, or agriculture-related field is preferred (1-3 years).
  • Valid CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) with appropriate endorsements preferred.
  • Applicator’s license for pesticide/fertilizer application, or the ability to obtain one.
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions in the field.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent record-keeping abilities.
  • Ability to work long hours during peak seasons, including weekends if necessary.
  • Familiarity with agricultural equipment, including sprayers, spreaders, and application systems.
